Johnny Marr New Town Velocity

The song is taken from the critically acclaimed album The Messenger and was inspired by Marr’s own story of the day he left school aged fifteen to pursue a life as a musician.

Johnny introduced me to the concept of psychogeography and explained he’d like to incorporate it into the video for New Town Velocity. Johnny and I share an interest in architecture and specifically Modernist and Brutalist structures of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The video is set in a modernist version of Manchester and we attempt to shoot the city as it had never been seen before utilising a patchwork of locations from across the city and it’s satellite towns including Johnny’s childhood estate of Wythenshawe.
